T&T has test­ed eight sam­ples for the mon­key­pox dis­ease and ac­cord­ing to the Min­is­ter of Health, they all re­turned a neg­a­tive re­sult.

He al­so in­di­cat­ed that while T&T has put forth a re­quest for 2,000 dos­es of vac­cines against the dis­ease through the Pan Amer­i­can Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion (PA­HO), there is no fi­nal word yet on when they will be pro­vid­ed or at what cost.

He said the min­istry does not in­tend to vac­ci­nate the en­tire pop­u­la­tion with the dos­es but, in­stead, will in­oc­u­late pri­ma­ry con­tacts of con­firmed mon­key­pox cas­es.

With just about sev­en con­firmed cas­es of the dis­ease in the re­gion, Deyals­ingh said there is no cur­rent need to vac­ci­nate the mass­es
